AbScent.og: How to think (and eat) like a parosmic

Our friends at AbScent.org will be sharing a video on 9/14 with us, which will be posted on our instagram, on our homepage, and via a blog post on our site:

“Many people who have parosmia struggle to share their experience with loved ones and friends. Smells provoke disgust that often defies description. Learning how to be hypervigilant to avoid the offensive experience of some foods becomes second nature, and often the aroma compounds shared by common foods are not obvious (onions and eggs for example). I'd like to illustrate how this works by asking people to join me in a nibble-taste-compare exercise with three common foods. Will you be able to pick out what is similar? For parosmics affected by this particular compound it is easy. Many normosmics can't quite put their finger on it!  Join me to see what you think!” Founder Chrissi Kelly.

How to think (and eat) like a parosmic:

In a video, I'll be showing people how those with parosmia start to recognize their trigger foods. To do this, I'll be showing three common foods that have a related aroma compound in them. You are welcome to join me in the exercise. You will need some whole lettuce leaves (iceberg or romaine--it helps if they are freshly removed from the head and washed), some slices of cucumber, and a slice of honeydew or other green melon. Tune in to hear what both parosmics and normosmics have told me about this taste test.

Looking forward to sharing with you on World Taste and Smell Day, 2023!
